About Us

Health Access NP opened in 2015 as the first private NP clinic in BC. It was born out of the need to assist with the delivery of primary care due to the shortage of family doctors, and long ER wait times for minor issues in our rural area. Over the years, with just one NP and no government funding, the services were restructured to meet the unique needs of our local population.

Today, Health Access NP is open 4 days a week by appointment, mainly to treat adult clients requiring medical foot care; such as diabetics, those with poor circulation, wounds, infections, painful feet, neuropathy, or ingrown nails. Limited care is also provided to adults who require assistance with metabolic health through LifeStyle medicine.

LifeStyle Medicine--Your Metabolic Health

Our lifestyle choices can impact our health over time. Our Lifestyle and biology can affect our weight, blood pressure, sleep, how we regulate our blood sugar and how our organs function. In BC, clients are also encouraged to visit the LifeStyleRx, or the Metabolite programs online for a MSP funded medically supervised program that aims to improve metabolic health.

Metabolic Health Consultation Your medical history and a focused physical exam that includes your height, weight, BP, and waist circumference will be conducted. Your views on what constitutes health, and any struggles or successes you've had in the past will be reviewed. We will examine your health related goals, diet, exercise, and current functional state. A metabolic panel of lab work will determine your liver, kidney, and pancreas function and help to reveal any insulin resistance. A Lifestyle program will be developed with you based on your goals, for your long term success. Medication at additional cost to you**, may be ordered to achieve your health goals.

Medical Foot Care--approx. 1 hour

During Basic Care a general medical history is taken, followed by a focused physical exam of the feet and a brief gait analysis, then an assessment of your shoes for proper fit. The nails are trimmed, and filed, and any calluses, are removed. The feet are cleansed and moisturized with a foot massage to stimulate the circulation. Individualized Teaching is completed.

Basic Foot Care.....$80 plus sterile tool fee $15

Advanced Foot Care: Basic Care is completed with attention to individualized teaching on the care of Diabetic feet. Clients may have their circulation assessed by doppler/ABI and a monofilament and sensory exam will be performed. Wound care will be done, see below. Abnormalities indicating infection or structural deformity may result in referral to the local wound care clinic, a certified pedorthist, or a surgical podiatrist.

Advanced Foot Care....$125 plus sterile tool fee $15

Onychomycosis is the term for fungal infection of the toenails. It affects about 10% of the general population, 30% of diabetics, and 50% of those aged 70 and older. The first visit includes your Basic Foot Care with trimming and filing as well as an informed discussion on options for treatment or management Nail reduction with Basic Foot Care.......................$125

Fungal Nail testing with Pharmacological Treatment........................$90

Sharp debridement and Wound care of calluses, corns and wounds is a practice conducted by licensed RNs, NPs and GPs who have completed specialized training. Per simple debridement............$15

Simple Dressing wounds and ulcers............$25---$45

Ingrown toenails require assessment, local anesthetic and removal with sterilized equipment and dressings. This is done in about 30min. Post- op wound care, teaching and written care instructions will be provided. Antibiotics may be prescribed during this visit. A follow up visit is included

Procedure fee.................$150

Orthonyxic (Nail) Bracing Is the local application of a flexible brace to the surface of an involuted nail for the purpose of relieving minor pain, correcting its curvature, or to prevent it from ingrowing. It is often a gentler approach than surgical removal when used early.

Nail Bracing per nail............$45

Medical foot care encompasses a broad range of skills and services, all of which are completed gently by an experienced Nurse Practitioner.
